As reported in Ubuntu bug 588725 and bug 588715 , sometimes there is no console output even on perfectly well functioning instances and well after the typical 5 minute grace period.

Bug 588725 reports that amazon has requested instance ids and ami-ids of instances where this issue has been seen.

So, If you've seen this issue, please post that data below.
Please provide:
* ami-id: ami-abcdefg
* ami-name: (ie 'ubuntu-precise-daily-i386-server-20120128' as reported by describe-images)
* instance-id: i-abcdefg
* region: us-east-1
