Wine crashes standard EC2 instance

This question is not answered. Answer it to earn points.
I've tried running wine using this AMI as a base: ec2-public-images/fedora-8-i386-base-v1.07.manifest.xml

Wine will run fine until it exists.  Upon exiting wine, the kernel crashes.  To see if it was something to do with Fedora I also tried an Ubuntu AMI alestic/ubuntu-8.04-hardy-base-20080803.manifest.xml, and got the same exact result.  It seems to be something with the xen kernel.

Anyone have wine running in their instance or know how to get around this crash?

I suggest trying different versions of the kernel.  There are 6 to chose from: three 32-bit kernels for small instances and three 64-bit kernels for large instances.

I think I've found an AMI that works.  I haven't done a lot of testing yet but so far no crashes:


rightscale_images/CentOS5V_0V3_0_0.img

Runs this kernel:
Linux domU-12-31-39-00-C1-38 2.6.18-xenU-ec2-v1.0 #2 SMP Tue Feb 19 10:51:53 EST 2008 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux

We recently ran into this as well.  I'm rather bothered by the fact that wine can crash xen.

Does anyone have an explanation/fix for this?

How can we tell which version of xen AWS is running in dom0?

Is it possible to use this kernel with fedora core 8?

I've had some success switching to the 2.6.18 kernel. Perhaps a kernel boffin could chime in and tell me if this is a 'good idea' (tm). I am running the alestic jaunty AMI with these AKI/ARI's.
